Do I have anything new to contribute to the hobby of metal detecting?

So…Why start blogging?

Here I sit, in front my computer, pondering that very question. Why? Could it be that I want to get my opinions on record for all to read before I catch that last train to Heaven? You must know what they say about opinions…they’re like noses, we’ve all got one. (Wife made me clean that last sentence up a little). So, why do this and why about metal detecting? Well, I’ve lived a long life, in my mid 60’s now, about to retire a second time. Where has the time gone? My kids are grown and have their own kids to chase after and now I sit contemplating my future. I picked up metal detecting as a hobby a few years back after one of my kids gave me one for Christmas. Or was it my birthday? Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed myself, walking over the landscape waving the detector one direction then another. The beeping and chirping were almost constant when I first began, but as I gained experience and negotiated the learning curve, I stopped digging at every little peep and chirp uttered by the device. I also found out very quickly the importance of having a good pin-pointer handy. Those of you with a little experience can vouch for that. I tried a variety of digging tools as I progressed…shovels, garden tools, etc. Eventually, after reading other blogs and watching a bunch of youtube videos, I accumulated the appropriate tools for the task. I am so thankful that a multitude of talented people freely offer their expertise in blogs and videos. The Internet has proven to be invaluable and  has helped me avoid many pitfalls and endless trial and error. So back to my original question…Why start a blog? While still considered a novice in the world of metal detecting, I have decided that I would like to share some of the tidbits of wisdom that I have gained and continue to sharpen my skills by exchanging stories and ideas with my readers. Also, I am told that I may possibly earn a few pennies to supplement my retirement income by linking interested readers to websites where they can find more details about topics and equipment discussed on this blog. So, there you have it…my rational for the blog. Please read and comment. If I fail to adequately express myself let me know. Spelling, punctuation and grammar are not my strong points. So off we go into a new venture…….
